Unless you want a chuckle here and there. Both for most of us who know we should be exercising and either don't know where to start or lack the motivation to, well, get off our asses, this book is our new workout partner. It's chock full of great suggestions for what to do and how to get yourself to do it, without the annoying chipper size zero work out model. Crabby is funny, irreverent and is realistic about time and financial constraints. So, if you are just starting out or need a nudge to get back on the wagon, Crabby's your gal!Full disclosure...I know Crabby McSlacker. I know her very well actually, so this may not be the most objective review ever written. The truth is, though, she is the reason I work out, eat well (aside from that addiction to kettle corn) and weigh the same as I did when I graduated from high school. I've been reading Jan Graham's blog for a few years now, and I'm SO happy she's published a book!
It is, as others have stated, for those of us who sometimes lack motivation, or maybe don't really know where to start. It's also hysterically funny.
(I must say that I needed her reminder that exercise isn't always a joy, and that there's no shame in finishing a set of Tabatas and collapsing on the floor, red-faced, gasping for breath, and turning the air blue with curses.)
I was hoping to hear something more motivating, more useful. Based on the author's blog posts, I wanted more. It was not here.
Get this. Even if it doesn't inspire you to fitness, Crabby is very, very funny and you will enjoy the humor.
This was such a delight to read! No holds barred, no fantasy miracle methods, just honest information put forth in a practical, realistic, and entertaining way. I love the wit and humor interspersed among solid exercise information.
I like her personality and find this book very humorous, however it's a bit lacking in content. Most of the info is pretty general and targeted for someone who really has no clue about fitness. Her blog is better content wise.
I have followed Jan's blog, Cranky Fitness, for several years but reading her book put a different perspective on her knowledge and humor. I laughed my ass off while being motivated at the same time.
I love it in my kindle with all the links for more information and resources, and the ability to bookmark to go back to some key issues for me personally.
Can't wait for the next one!
I read Jan's blog and have for a while, so I knew what to expect and had already read most of the content (on her blog or elsewhere). The presentation is irreverent and often obscene - which some people might object to, so be warned. I find it funny and motivating. Aside from that, the information presented is solid and accurate and honest. People who don't want to hear that fitness and weight loss is about working your ass off aren't going to like this one.
